The Value of Natural Light

Writer: Jeff JorgensenJeff Jorgensen

According to an article published by Mansion Global, natural light adds value to a home, although its exact value is hard to measure.

“Home shoppers usually spend longer times touring sunlit abodes than they do darker homes,” said broker Nadine Adamson.

The article says natural light is linked to increased productivity and well-being. Natural light, with proper window treatments, also gives the feeling of luxury living.

“For developers, natural sunlight is a treasured commodity,” said senior vice president for development as the Moinian Group, Aron Kirsch. “It simultaneously attracts tenants to a development while enhancing their overall live/work/play experience, encouraging a longer tenancy.”

Whether trying to rent you home or sell your home, natural light is a bonus for anyone searching the market. The added value of light may not be addressed in appraisals though because the exact value is very hard to measure.

I worked with them as the appraisal coordinator for my lending institution for three years and they are great to work with. Not a corporation but a family owned business which is nice and always willing to explain anything I had questions about.

Our law firm, Heideman & Associates, hired Jeff Jorgensen to work as an expert witness on a construction defect matter. Jeff was very professional, quick to respond to our inquiry and communications, and did an excellent job for our case. We wouldn't hesitate to use Jeff for future expert needs and we highly recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable, professional appraiser!
