During the COVID 19 Pandemic, national interest in ski towns has been on the rise. Utah, home of “the greatest snow on Earth” and the US ski team, is no stranger to this increased interest.
Ski towns are uncrowded, safe, and close to outdoor recreation, which could be two major draws during the pandemic. People are working remotely and are looking for things to do that don’t come with the risk of contracting COVID.
“Skiing is done outdoors and generally at a distance from others, making it a relatively safe sport during the pandemic,” said realtor.com chief economist Danielle Hale. “Many of these areas offer year-round outdoor activities, making them summer destinations as well.”
According to realtor.com, Eden, Utah, has seen a 122% increase in searches when compared to 2019. Eden could be seeing this increase in interest because it is within 30 minutes of three ski towns and offers year-round entertainment. Eden is also a more affordable option than Park City, which sees visitors from all over the world.
In 2020, Park City saw 815 single family home sales with an average of $465/SF compared to 552 sales in 2019 with an average of $384/SF. In the five years prior to 2020, the highest number of single family home sales was 567 in 2017. Condo sales also saw an increase with 935 in 2020 compared to 746 in 2019.
So far, 2021 has seen 39 more listings than same time last year. It's likely that Park City is about to have another big year!
