The One Personality Trait Every Appraisal Must Have

Writer: Jeff JorgensenJeff Jorgensen

McKissock, an education provider for appraisers, recently conducted a survey where they asked “What one personality trait should every property appraiser have?” The number one response that 46% of the respondents gave was “unbiased”. The second place answer was a tie with each receiving 15% of the vote was “Self-motivated” and “Analytical”.

I agree with these responses. If you are easily pressured into things or have a hard time viewing things from a neutral third party position, you would not make a good appraiser. The same is true about being self motivated and analytical. Being self motivated relates to the fact that most appraisers work for themselves. Being analytical goes without saying since the job is basically about analyzing data and market behavior. Appraising is a great job, but not for the faint of heart.

I worked with them as the appraisal coordinator for my lending institution for three years and they are great to work with. Not a corporation but a family owned business which is nice and always willing to explain anything I had questions about.

Our law firm, Heideman & Associates, hired Jeff Jorgensen to work as an expert witness on a construction defect matter. Jeff was very professional, quick to respond to our inquiry and communications, and did an excellent job for our case. We wouldn't hesitate to use Jeff for future expert needs and we highly recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable, professional appraiser!
