Don’t Go to Amazon for Affordable Housing

Writer: Jeff JorgensenJeff Jorgensen

Though Amazon is a great place to buy household items and personal care items, you won’t find many deals on homes near an Amazon headquarters. There are a few tiny homes for sell on the site, but if you plan to live near an Amazon headquarters, you may want to start saving up.

According to Realtor.com when Amazon narrowed its selection to New York City and Arlington, prices in both areas spiked. When Arlington was selected, home sales jumped 33% year over year and continues to climb. In contrast New York City is looking at a 15% decline in home sales.

The large amount of appreciation in Arlington is mostly due to a decreasing supply and a surging demand. As of October 2019, active listings in Arlington County were down 49%. Many workers are needed to keep a massive operation like an Amazon headquarters running. With such an influx of workers, it is no surprise that home prices have increased.

Next time you are looking for a home to purchase, keep in mind that if you want a premium feature like a beautiful valley view, a property that backs the water or a beautiful Amazon warehouse view :), you will pay for it.

I worked with them as the appraisal coordinator for my lending institution for three years and they are great to work with. Not a corporation but a family owned business which is nice and always willing to explain anything I had questions about.

Our law firm, Heideman & Associates, hired Jeff Jorgensen to work as an expert witness on a construction defect matter. Jeff was very professional, quick to respond to our inquiry and communications, and did an excellent job for our case. We wouldn't hesitate to use Jeff for future expert needs and we highly recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable, professional appraiser!
